From Clients to Friends
Now that the 2018 wedding season is drawing to a close, I am taking the time to reflect on all the great couples I have had a chance to meet and work with.
First off I absolutely love the fact that I develop relationships with couples and become like friends after the engagement session. So even months later when I arrive on the wedding day, its like we have met several times before. There has to be a major trust between a photographer and their client which I think creates a unique friendship right off the bat. Not too many men or women in my 10 plus years of portrait and wedding photography experience feel at ease in front of camera. Without trust, the images lack raw emotion and tend to feel stiff. And while most of my portraits are posed, I gently guide them into the pose, get the shot and then tell him to whisper something flirty or silly into her ear. This elicits a natural reaction and most of the time, this is the shot I as well as the couple prefer and are drawn to.
With technology these days it is almost many of my brides have met me already as they follow my feeds on Instagram and Facebook. I love that and with often ask brides to send me photos of poses they love and would like me to try on their wedding day. It doesn’t offend me in the least and I welcome a challenge! So bring on the Pinterest pin shares!
A huge thank you goes out to all the brides and grooms that booked me this year. I am fully aware of the numerous options for photographers out there and it is humbling each and every time I am chosen. Word of mouth is my primary form of advertising so when I get a call or an email from a couple saying they were referred to me by a friend whose wedding I did or something along those lines, I am thrilled beyond belief! It is the biggest compliment I could receive. I am looking forward to 2019 and meeting more amazing couples!
